EDUCATION:
Patrick Murphy earned his J.D. from the University of Wyoming in 1979 after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with his B.A. in 1976.
LEGAL PRACTICE:
Pat has been with the firm since graduating from law school in 1979 and has been a shareholder since 1981. He has litigated medical malpractice, legal malpractice, insurance bad faith, products liability, personal injury, wrongful death, and wrongful termination suits, and is focusing his efforts on the defense of high-exposure personal injury and wrongful death cases.
ON THE SIDE:
As a lobbyist for the state’s largest public utility, Pat helped draft the following legislative enactments in recent years: The elimination of joint and several liability, 1986; the High Voltage Overhead Powerline Safety Act, 1989; and the application of comparative fault principles to products liability cases. Pat was heavily involved in the 2016 Tenth Circuit Case which established a 1:1 ratio of punitive damages to compensatory damages as the constitutional limit per punitive damages in bodily injury and death cases.
